The Common Goodness Project, Community Workshop – Saturday, February 3rd
The Coalition for Orcas Youth is hosting a free Community Workshop supporting LGBTQ+ youth, facilitated by Page, founder of the Common Goodness Project.
It will be held at the Funhouse, 30 Pea Patch Lane, from 10:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., with a break for a catered lunch at 12:00 p.m.
- Pre-registration to reserve your seat is required at eventbrite.
Page's training covers impactful data about the disproportionate negative outcomes for LGBTQ youth in WA State and the US, and evidence-based practices to mitigate risk factors specific to these. The afternoon session takes a deeper dive into practical approaches to advocacy within the roles of community members.
Agenda:
Session 1, 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.:
Page, an expert in LGBTQ+ youth, will offer an introductory conversation on supporting LGBTQ+ youth. She will share the latest findings regarding the wellbeing of LGBTQ+ youth, help you feel more comfortable with LGBTQ+ language and ideas, and hold a space where everyone is invited to share ideas, concerns, and hopes.
12:00 - 1:00: Lunch break, generously provided by Island Market
Session 2, 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.:
During the second portion of the day, Page will hold a conversation about how you can be a better advocate for the LGBTQ+ in your life and community. Guided by a trauma-informed approach she will offer guidance on preparing young people to be their own advocate, talking with resistant adults using nonviolent communication strategies, and how to ground our values as we step out to support LGBTQ+ youth.
